Get Involved

There are many ways to get involved at Loyola Village.

Booster Club

The Loyola Village Booster Club is the fundraising arm for Loyola Village Elementary School. It is a tax-exempt, charitable organization formed to enhance the educational opportunities that are not otherwise provided for in the school budget and to sponsor projects and events for the benefit of our students.

As many of you may already know, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has been faced with massive budget cuts. These budget cuts have had, and continue to have, a significant negative impact on our school. Over the last two years, the Booster Club has raised in excess of $100,000. In the 2010-2011 school year, our goal is to raise money to fund the following:

Magnet Coordinator Position.
In addition to coordinating and managing Magnet enrollment, our Magnet Coordinator is responsible for our school-wide positive behavior program (i.e., discipline), organizing and producing school-wide productions that involve both Magnet and Traditional students, supervising the African Drum and Dance Ensemble and much more.

Copy Machine.
LAUSD does not provide funding for our school’s copying machine. Our copier is used on a daily basis by every teacher and our administrative staff. Without this funding, the school will not have a copier this year.

Computers and Projectors.
LAUSD recently adopted a new math program that requires the use of laptop computers and LCD projectors. Last year, Booster provided new laptop computers with LCD projectors for ten classrooms. We need to complete the balance of purchases so our teachers can effectively teach.

Guitar Lessons.
As a Fine & Performing Arts Magnet Center we want to continue to provide guitar lessons to every 3rd grade student.

Librarian.
LAUSD has cut back all librarians to part-time. We would like to keep our Wonder of Reading librarian, Ms. Diane Greenseid, at full-time status for the 2010-2011 school year. As a children’s book illustrator she has introduced individual expression through different art projects in the library.

There is much more that we should fund, but these are the critical items that need our immediate attention.

 WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Loyola Village is a public school. We operate in direct competition with charter schools that demand donations upwards of $700 per year from each student’s family, and private schools with annual tuitions between $8,000-$24,000. We are part of your community, we want the best for your children, and in order to provide the best, we need your financial support.  We cannot rely exclusively on LAUSD to support us. Please know that as fellow Loyola Village parents we understand and respect that every family faces unique financial hardships. However, this year, we are asking every family to contribute what it can – whether it’s through a direct donation of money, purchasing fundraising items or volunteering hours – we urgently need your contributions. The following are just some of the ways you can get involved.

Donations

If you are able, please make a direct donation of money to the Booster Club. One hundred percent of every dollar you give will go to the school and is tax deductible. We accept cash, checks and credit card payments – and you can set up monthly installments by clicking the PayPal Donate link below. Please also check to see if your employer offers a Donation Matching Program, which will double your donation. We will, of course, be conducting fundraisers throughout the year to help meet our financial goals, but fundraisers will not be enough. We need you. Please click the Donate button below and make your donation today!

Volunteering & Fundraising Opportunities

Volunteering is the backbone of Booster Club’s fundraising efforts. And, as noted above, with the budget cuts, we need your help more than ever. From Gift Wrap, Cookie Dough and See’s Candy sales to the Silent Auction and our Cash Opportunity prize, Booster Club volunteers organize various fundraising events and programs throughout the year. PTA

PTA is the nation’s oldest, largest and highest profile volunteer organization working on behalf of public schools, children and families. Loyola Village PTA volunteers work to improve the education, health and welfare of all children at our school. PTA sponsors the following programs: Reflections arts recognition and achievement program, Yearbook, Book Fair and much more.

For the price of a movie ticket (the entire cost of membership), you get PTA representation and advocacy on a national level, and your children and ALL children have a better chance to be the award winners in their education, health and well being. Please join the Loyola Village PTA. Annual membership dues are only $10.

School Site Council

The governing body at Loyola Village School is the School Site Council (SSC). SSC develops and approves the Single Plan for Student Achievement, including school improvement programs and school budgets.  Our council is comprised of the principal, faculty, school personnel such as administrative staff, parents of students attending the school or other community members selected by such parents. SSC representatives and officers are elected at the beginning of each school year, and all eligible parties are encouraged to participate. Download LAUSD’s Policy Bulletin to learn more about SSC.
