FAMILY NEWSLETTER
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This month, our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders join all of California’s elementary school students by participating in the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program. The testing period is Monday, May 7th through Wednesday, May 23rd. A score report will be mailed directly to your home during the summer, and it will provide you with valuable information regarding your child’s progress in meeting the state’s grade level standards in language arts, mathematics, and science (5th grade only). Throughout this entire year, our teachers have presented lessons based upon these state standards. Further, your child has learned test-taking strategies and practiced with a variety of released test questions provided by the state. Your assistance in three key areas during testing will insure that your child is feeling his/her best each day: a good night’s sleep; a nutritious breakfast; and an “on time” arrival at school. Since teachers will begin the standardized testing protocols soon after 8:15 a.m., tardy students may not enter their classroom until after recess. This situation results in make-up testing sessions that could have been avoided. If a doctor, dentist, or other appointment must be scheduled during school time, please request that it be arranged for the afternoon. Make-up testing will be scheduled for all students with unavoidable absences. Thank you for your support and assistance in making the STAR program a success for your child and for our school. Sincerely yours,
